Risk factors were identified as female gender (p<0.001), longer infection duration (p<0.05), comorbidity of eyes, ear, nose, throat disease (p<0.01), and severe post-infection impact on daily life and work (p<0.05), while equal or larger than 70 years old (p<0.05) and vaccination after primary infection (p<0.01) were associated with a lower risk of reinfection. The prevalence of most symptoms after reinfection was lower than the first infection, except for fatigue. Conclusion: No significant difference in mRNA (BNT162b2) vaccine and inactivated (CoronaVac) vaccine against reinfection. Post-infection vaccination could lower the risk of reinfection, which potentially inform the development of preventive measures including vaccination policies against potential new SARS-Cov-2 variants. ]]> <![CDATA[ Changes in lung function and dyspnea perception in Colombian Covid-19 patients after a 12-week pulmonary rehabilitation program. ]]> https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.03.11.24303896v1?rss=1" Zona, D. Results: The province with the highest ASMR is Benguet with 207.83 deaths per 100 000 population, followed by Cagayan, Bataan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, National Capital Region, Isabela, Cebu, Aurora and Davao del Sur. Meanwhile, the province with the lowest ASMR is Tawi-Tawi with 2.22 deaths per 100 000 population, followed by Sulu, Masbate, Misamis Occidental, Camarines Norte, Sarangani, Camiguin, Sultan Kudarat, Southern Leyte, Catanduanes and Batanes. Among the independent variables, poverty incidence and hospital beds per 100 000 population were found to independently predict CMR and ASMR. Discussion: The results of this analysis provides a starting point for the investigation of COVID-19 mortality in Philippine provinces. The ranking of provinces by ASMR reveals the provinces with the highest and lowest rates, while the results of the correlation analysis, linked with findings from previous studies, explain the ranking, including surveillance issues that are related to health-care access and health-seeking behaviour. Our study paves the way for investigating factors that need to be considered and more closely investigated to get a clearer picture to inform decision-making, which affects millions of lives in communities across the Philippines' provinces. ]]> <![CDATA[ ONE HEALTH APPROACH ON SARS-COV-2 - USING SHEEP AS SENTINEL ANIMALS TO INCREASE FUTURE PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS - a pilot study ]]> https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.03.15.585163v1?rss=1" Samojlovic, M. Using the protein expression data alone, Ozette Discovery is able to identify granular, robust, and interpretable cellular phenotypes in a high-throughput manner. In particular, we identify a population of CLEC12A+CD11b+CD14- myeloid cells that are specifically expanded in patients with critical COVID-19, and can only be resolved by their protein expression profiles. Using the longitudinal gene expression data from this dataset, we find that early expression of interferon response genes precedes the expansion of this subset, and that early expression of PRF1 and GZMB within specific Ozette Discovery phenotypes provides a RNA biomarker of critical COVID-19. In summary, Ozette Discovery demonstrates that taking a protein-centric approach to cell phenotype annotation in CITE-seq data can achieve the potential that dual RNA/protein assays provide in mixed samples: instantaneous in silico flow sorting, and unbiased RNA-seq profiling. ]]> <![CDATA[ Differential Patterns of Cross-Protection against Antigenically Distinct Variants in Small Animal Models of SARS-CoV-2 Infection ]]> https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.03.14.584985v1?rss=1" Selvaraj, P. In PLWH who experienced breakthrough infection, median T cell frequencies increased even higher than those observed after three vaccine doses (p<0.03), and CD8+ T cell responses in this group remained higher even after a fourth vaccine dose (p=0.03). In multivariable analysis, the only factor associated with increased breakthrough infection risk was younger age, consistent with the rapid increases in SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity among younger adults in Canada after the initial appearance of the Omicron variant. Studies that were conducted solely in institutional housing were excluded. Eligible studies were extracted and critically appraised. We described and mapped the prevalence (tested by RT-PCR or antigen tests) and seroprevalence (tested by serological tests) by geographical area and time. We then compared the estimated prevalence with WHO-reported prevalence and the prevalence among younger age groups from the same study. ResultsWe identified 202 (sero)prevalence estimates from 126 studies, covering 50 countries up to October 2022. Of the 126 studies, 28 studies estimated RT-PCR-based prevalence; 104 studies estimated seroprevalence, ranging from 0% in Jordan to 22.5% in the United States in 2020, from 0.41% in Brazil to 98% in Chile in 2021. In the year 2020, prevalence of COVID-19 ranged from 0.0006% in China, to 52.8% in Brazil, while in 2021, prevalence ranged from 0.06% in England to 41.1% in Brazil. The ratio of the reported prevalence to estimated prevalence ranged from <0.01 to 77.50, where 86% (24/28) studies estimated a higher prevalence than WHO reported and half of them estimated >10 times higher prevalence. One third of studies (32%, 9/28) estimated a higher prevalence in older people compared with younger people. ConclusionsOur findings suggest that underreporting of COVID-19 cases among older people may exist extensively worldwide. Compared with younger groups, older people were less likely to be infected with COVID-19 in two thirds of the studies through the first two years of the pandemic. ]]> <![CDATA[ Understanding Food Insecurity in Kinshasa During the COVID-19 Pandemic ]]> https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.03.06.24303901v1?rss=1" Akilimali, P.
